THERE'S a new gunboat on Oakland's estuary that's ready for action just in case terrorists invade our glimmering waterway.

"I hope to hell we don't have to use anything, but we always have plan B if we do," Alameda County Sheriff Charles Plummer said as he sped through saltwater spray toward Jack London Square recently during the boat's official launching.
