Supreme Court says Perata can run again Chan, supporters argue over his partial term, to take case to lower court

The state Supreme Court refused Wednesday to block state Senate Majority Leader Don Perata from seeking another term in 2004, turning away a request by two East Bay women backed by Assembly Majority Leader Wilma Chan.

The women's attorney said the case -- over whether Perata's partial first term as a senator counts toward the two-term limit -- isn't over.
