Mosquitoes find a place in the rain Officials on watch for West Nile virus during prime breeding time

The recent rainstorms have created thousands of backyard breeding
grounds for mosquitoes. It's up to homeowners to seek them out and
destroy them.
With the deadly, mosquito-borne West Nile virus expected to reach
the Bay Area soon, it's a job that has taken on some urgency.
Mosquito control agencies in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Joaquin
counties are stepping up their never-ending campaigns against the
bloodsucking insects.
Before the year is done, they will have stocked millions of larva-
eating mosquitofish in backyard ponds and "green" swimming pools,
free of charge.
