Chicago's tunnels leak less by volume
Its system features more concrete lining

The Milwaukee deep tunnel system is dwarfed by the one that serves
the metropolitan Chicago area and is still being built.
The Chicago system now has 92 miles of tunnels in operation and
will hold more than a billion gallons of sewage, compared with
Milwaukee's 17-mile system that holds 405 million gallons. Unlike
Milwaukee's, the vast majority of Chicago's tunnel system is lined
with concrete.
