Ripon is birthplace of League's founder Catt

Ripon is best known as the birthplace of the Republican Party and
little known as the birthplace of the woman who gave birth to the
League of Women Voters.
Carrie Lane Chapman Catt, who was born in Ripon in 1859, succeeded
Susan B. Anthony as the leader of the women's suffrage movement in
the United States and headed the campaign to ratify the 19th
Amendment, giving women the right to vote on Aug. 26, 1920.
Wisconsin, by the way, was the first state to ratify the
amendment.
