Quartet's adventures are almost convincing
Fine Arts group stretches with Casella, Franck

The Fine Arts Quartet didn't bill it as a local premiere, but the
performance of Alfredo Casella's Five Pieces for Quartet, from 1920,
might well have been the first in Milwaukee. Casella (1883-1947) was
an influential figure in Italian music between the wars, but his work
is little known in America.
Casella studied in Paris and knew Debussy, Ravel, Enescu and
Bartok. Five Pieces is loaded with Bartokian gestures ("savage" dance ...
