Dalmatian movie worries shelters

Dogs given as gifts may end up abandoned

With the onslaught of spotted puppies in the theaters this weekend, humane societies and Dalmatian organizations are bracing themselves for a different kind of onslaught -- that of abandoned and unwanted dogs.

Within one year of the 1996 release of the Disney live-action flick "101 Dalmatians," animal shelters were bombarded with the black- spotted dogs that were purchased on a whim but quickly became unwanted burdens, according to The Humane ...
