Restoring the `Golden Fleece'

Some U.S. senators built their careers around bringing home the
bacon. Former U.S. Sen. William Proxmire (D-Wis.) went for the gold
instead -- examples of wasteful government spending that became the
gilded grist for his famous "Golden Fleece" awards.
Although Proxmire retired from the Senate in 1989, his Golden
Fleece awards are back in the news. A group called Taxpayers for
Common Sense has revived them...
