Electronic nose offers a whiff of the future

Device may someday sniff out disease, rotten food

Washington -- You may say to-MAH-to and I may say to-MAY-to, but with one quick sniff, the electronic nose can say "vine ripened" or "picked green."

Pass the orange juice, and the machine will tell you if it is fresh-squeezed or made from frozen concentrate.

Sensors on electronic chips can now detect and measure low levels of the same airborne compounds that activate the natural sense of smell, without getting tired or distracted or bored or ...
