Ice, cold are his life's work
|
John Behrendt certainly didn't realize it when he was growing up
in Stevens Point, but Wisconsin's harsh winters prepared him for his
life's work.
Now considered a leader in the field of Antarctic geophysics,
Behrendt was a 24-year-old University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate
student when he first journeyed to Antarctica in 1956-'57 as part of
the International Geophysical Year, a cooperative venture by several
nations to explore the frozen continent.
