Leo Kober is a true son of Daimler-Benz. His father died when
he was young, and the 58-year-old Kober "sort of grew up here," he
said, gesturing toward the nearby Daimler headquarters complex.
Kober, a truck designer for the German automaker, started work
there as a junior machinist in the truck division at age 16. Twelve
