Carbon dioxide not the only contributor to greenhouse effect
|
A question we are asked more often than most concerns the
greenhouse effect and its effect on global warming. The greenhouse
effect is a warming of the air near the Earth's surface that results
when the Earth's atmosphere traps the sun's heat. The atmosphere
acts very much like the glass enclosure of a greenhouse. Without
certain gases that act like the "glass" of a greenhouse, the planet
would be ice-covered, or some 60 degrees colder.

Scientist Says Greenhouse Effect Is Setting In
The Washington Post
; Man-made gases that trap solar heat, resulting in the so-called "greenhouse effect," have left the Earth warmer today than ever before and increase the likelihood of the type of drought now parching U.S. farmland, a NASA scientist told a congressional hearing yesterday. James E. Hansen, chief of

`Greenhouse effect' theory bolstered
Chicago Sun-Times
; In a study that bolsters the greenhouse effect theory, two Chicago scientists found that changing carbon dioxide levels caused glaciers to advance and retreat. The greenhouse theory states that carbon dioxide emitted by industrial activities acts as a blanket to cause global warming. This could

CO2: where it goes, nobody knows. (what happens to atmospheric carbon dioxide)
Science News
; [CO.sub.2]: Where it goes, nobody knows When carbon dioxide spews out of automobile tailpipes, not all of it stays in the atmosphere. Of the annual 5.3 billion tons of carbon pollution emitted each year in the form of carbon dioxide, only about 60 percent remains in the air, where it enhances
