UW center to teach African-language teachers Goal is to make languages such as Swahili, Yoruba as popular as French

Hoping to boost the teaching of African languages to the same popularity as French or German, the University of Wisconsin-Madison has opened the first national resource center devoted to the subject.

The National African Languages Resource Center, which opened this month, will tap the expertise of a national pool of scholars and teachers of African languages ranging from Arabic to Zulu.
