Soil stability near crane questioned Water main bursts; it may have cracked earlier

Stadium accident investigators are looking into the stability of the ground underneath the massive crane known as Big Blue, a spot about 20 feet away from where officials discovered a burst water main Tuesday.

While officials believe the burst is a result of last week's fatal accident at Miller Park, the city's Water Works superintendent told the Journal Sentinel it's possible the water main, which lies about 6 feet underground, had cracked some time before the accident.
