Robert Shaw, Lifting Every Voice

By this point, Robert Shaw is living history -- a musician who
worked with Arturo Toscanini, Serge Koussevitzky, George Szell and
Igor Stravinsky, among hundreds of others. And at 82, the man who
more than anyone put American choral conducting on the map is still
at the peak of his powers as an exhausted century comes to a close.
This week, Shaw will be at the Kennedy Center to conduct a
complete performance of the "Missa Solemnis," a grand start for the
