When it came his time to die, Charles Augustus Lindbergh made his
own arrangements. He picked out the grave on the island of Maui
where he would spend eternity. He supervised the construction of
the coffin. He chose the clothes he would be buried in. He even
specified how the shroud was to be folded.
He wanted no embalming, he told his family. He wanted them to
bury him within hours of his death. His goal was to return to the
earth he loved as quickly as possible.
