Lasers for farsightedness look close to approval Most common procedure used now is to correct nearsightedness

Sharon McCormack of White Salmon, Wash., loved windsurfing the
Columbia River Gorge, but she had a problem on the big jumps: Her
contact lenses washed out. "Or I got dust under a lens," she said.
"That's incredibly painful."
McCormack solved the problem by having laser surgery to correct
her nearsightedness. More than 400,000 laser vision procedures will
be done this year, industry sources say, most of them for
nearsightedness, or myopia, like McCormack's. But next year,
farsighted surfers and others may be having laser surgery, too.
