Marquette's Boyle drew crowds of students with teachings on Joyce

Father Robert R. Boyle, a James Joyce scholar with a popular student following at Marquette University from the late 1960s through the mid-'80s, died of heart failure Sunday at St. Camillus Campus in Wauwatosa. He was 82.

Students "flocked to his courses," said Prof. John McCabe, chairman of Marquette's English department. "Father Boyle was capable of transmitting to his students an awareness of how language and literature can enhance our lives."
