Watching the Pushkin Russian Ballet dance Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" at the Riverside Theatre on Saturday evening, it was difficult to remember that this gorgeous ballet was not recognized as a great work until after its composer's death.

It was only in 1895, two years after Tchaikovsky's death, that a version choreographed by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa became a huge success.
