In the wake of increasing gang violence that this week left a teenager dead on the steps of a church, police told south side leaders Wednesday that steps are being taken to improve safety.

The police efforts were announced at a meeting of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in which response to recent neighborhood violence dominated the agenda.
