Indonesia's Leader Stands Tough; Suharto Rules Out Reform in Face of Student Demands for Change

President Suharto today ruled out any chance of political reform before his term ends in five years as students continued to press their demands for change in clashes with security forces here and in other cities.

"If there is any intention for political reform, it should be prepared for the year 2003, after the present government finishes its term," Home Affairs Minister Radan Hartono quoted Suharto as saying.
