Woody Guthrie was born in small-town Oklahoma in 1912 and is best known for his songs inspired by the Depression and the Dust Bowl, especially the left-leaning American anthem "This Land Is Your Land."

Billy Bragg was born in a working-class London suburb in 1957 and, despite his forays into political commentary, is best known for his songs of unrequited love and morbid male romanticism.
