Shifting paradigms Fun exhibit explores how and why of form and function

Jody Clowes recalls "staring up at the streetlights as a young
girl, and wondering how they came to look that way. Who designed
them? And did they have to be so dull?"
Such puzzlings about the design process have shaped Clowes, now
35, in her work as a ceramist and as acting curator of decorative
arts for the Milwaukee Art Museum. They've also led to the
installation of "Technology in Design: 1700 to the Present," an
enlightening and amusing exhibit on view in the museum's Cudahy
Gallery through March 9.
