Turner Hall named historic landmark Turn-of-century building 1 of only 5 sites in city with U.S. designation

Turner Hall, 1034 N. 4th St., has been named a National Historic Landmark one of only five such sites in Milwaukee making it one of the unique sites in the nation deemed of "exceptional value to the nation."

The designation, made by the U.S. Department of Interior, recognizes that the 114-year-old building has "national significance in the history of the United States," according to a letter from the department this week to Gene Gilbert, president of the 200-member Milwaukee Turners organization.
