Next month, from the safety of his Nicaraguan farm or a place in Panama or even a family hideout in Miami, Detlaf Thomas can celebrate 10 years as one of Wisconsin's most fortunate fugitives.

When federal drug agents in Milwaukee tried to take Thomas down a decade ago, the young Nicaraguan exile with family connections to dictator Anastasio Somoza slipped out through the back patio of his Waukesha County home to avoid arrest and return eventually to his native land.
