Sky Watch; Paying Homage to an American Astronomer

When about 2,000 astronomers begin assembling here today for the 191st meeting of the American Astronomical Society, one U.S. Naval Observatory astronomer's work will not be forgotten.

LeRoy E. Doggett, who died at age 54, April 16, 1996, worked hard to keep our calendars precise and the astronomical and nautical almanacs packed with accurate information. His career in astronomy will be surveyed this afternoon at the AAS's LeRoy Doggett Memorial Session, where many of his colleagues will pay homage to him.
