In the weeks leading up to the Los Angeles Marathon, Jose Luis
Molina's application was misplaced, apparently an oversight by his
agent. So the runner made a late entry for the March 2 race, which
was confirmed by officials two days before the event.
By that time, air fare money for elite athletes had been spent,
so Molina paid his own $700 round-trip air fare from his home in San
