Latent heat battery a hot product for Modine; MODINE MANUFACTURING CO. COMPANY: Modine makes heat-transfer equipment, including radiators and oil coolers, for the automotive, truck and off-road markets. It also makes industrial heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. SALES: Projected to be nearly $1 billion in fiscal 1996, which ends March 31. Sales in 1995 were $913 million, a record that was up 36% from the previous year. HISTORY: Founded in 1916 by Art Modine, who recorded 80 patents. The company has been growing by buying other companies, including three in the past year located in Mexico, Spain and Kentucky. Modine's major customers include BMW, Chrysler Corp., Case Corp., Deere & Co., Caterpillar, Ford Motor Co., Fiat, Navistar International Transportation Corp. and Cummins Engine Co. OPERATIONS: Modine, based in Racine, has about 7,000 employees worldwide. It has manufacturing plants across the United States and in Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, Spain, Austria and Hungary, plus joint ventures in Mexico and Japan.
