The easiest way to remember which geological formation is which is
to think of it this way: Stalactites hold tight to the ceiling, and
stalagmites might get to the ceiling someday.
That's what seventh-grade science, a semester of spelunking (the
"sport" of caving) at UW-Milwaukee and our tour guide, Lori, taught
me to remember when touring a cave.
The part about not touching anything, however, I got from my
mother.
