Galina Ulanova, 88, one of the great ballerinas of the 20th
century who from 1944 to 1960 was the soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre
and the Soviet Union's top ballerina, died March 21 at a hospital
here. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Her death was announced by the Bolshoi, where she was active
and influential long after her years on the stage. The Kremlin later
issued a message of condolence from President Boris Yeltsin.
