Asbestos bill backers hope for revival; Plan would have created trust fund for victim payouts

Backers of legislation that would have ended asbestos lawsuits and
created a $140 billion trust fund for victims of asbestos-related
illnesses say they haven't given up, despite a U.S. Senate vote that
stalled their efforts.
"We are hopeful. There's no question that this bill could come up
again this year," said Darren McKinney, spokesman for the National
Association of Manufacturers, a Washington, D.C., trade group.
