Boston Store will have new management; Purchase by Bon-Ton will double size of chain

The Boston Store will have a new owner by early next year, but the
name and the stores will stay the same, the buyer said Monday.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc., a York, Pa.-based department store chain,
will buy Saks Inc.'s Northern department store group for $1.1
billion. The Northern group, which has its headquarters in the
downtown Boston Store building, includes 142 stores that operate
under the Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Herberger's
and Younkers names.
