Museum president resigns; Departure presents new obstacle for financially challenged institution

Milwaukee Public Museum President Michael D. Stafford resigned suddenly Friday, leaving the financially shattered institution in the care of its volunteer, part-time board.

The departure ignited a round of sniping among county officials who feel betrayed over getting blindsided by the museum crisis, and museum leaders who feel politicians forced Stafford out at a critical juncture in the fight to win help from private donors and lenders.
