Directing Mikado' a natural for new Skylight chief
|
"The Mikado" gave Bill Theisen his first paycheck in show
business. He sang and danced in the chorus role in a 1981 production
for the Skylight Opera Theatre. Theisen, after an intervening career
as a freelance director and performer, became the company's artistic
director last year.
He is directing his first Skylight show in that capacity. It's
Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado," and it opens Friday. Theisen did
not arrange this sentimental concordance. It was fate. The Skylight
had contracted Theisen to direct the show as a freelancer long before
he was named artistic director.
