Plan targets development; County would pay owners not to build on land near parks, trails

West Bend The Washington County Planning and Parks Department has
proposed spending $100,000 of county sales tax revenue each year
beginning in 2006 to purchase development rights to land adjacent to
existing or proposed county parks and recreational trails.
If the plan is approved by the County Board this year, the
department would ask farmers and other landowners at five priority
locations whether they would be willing to participate in the
