Study hints at higher death rate in women on calcium channel blockers

Patients who took a popular class of blood pressure drug had a substantially higher cardiovascular disease death rate than those taking other hypertension drugs, according to a study published today.

The disconcerting finding involving calcium channel blockers comes from a large ongoing study of postmenopausal women, including hundreds studied at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa. The results most likely apply to men, as well, according to researchers.
