But state shows deeper level of polarization than four years ago

Confirming its place as a paragon of parity, Wisconsin remained up for grabs hours after the polls closed Tuesday night, with tiny margins separating President Bush and Sen. John Kerry after the most intensive presidential campaign in the state's history.

With 87% of the precincts in, Kerry had 50% of the vote and Bush had 49%. Independent Ralph Nader was drawing about 1% of the statewide vote, a huge drop-off from the nearly 4% he attracted in 2000.
