Art museum recasts its contemporary collection

Older pieces are retired to give newer works breathing room, a chance to shine

Ever since its move to the downtown lakefront in the late 1940s, the Milwaukee Art Museum has sought to upgrade its standing as a showcase for venturesome artwork.

The recently completed reinstallation of its contemporary collection is a step in that direction.

Overexposed objects have been hauled off to storage. New acquisitions have been given high visibility. Established favorites have been remounted ...
