Whitewater -- A wooden box stored in a basement at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater yielded an unexpected find: a 130-specimen fossil collection that belonged to a legendary geologist more than 130 years ago.

The 3-foot-long box was found lying amid piles of discarded junk and scrapped equipment. It could easily have been overlooked, if not for professor Rex Hanger, who made the find after volunteering to sort through the basement before a renovation.
