Richard Lippold, Guido Brink

One left Milwaukee to conquer the world. The other left Germany to conquer Milwaukee. Both died during 2002, leaving larger-than-life artistic legacies.

Richard Lippold, a Milwaukee-reared sculptor, drew gracefully in space with a glistening mixture of stainless steel, wire and plastic. He died at 87 in Roslyn, N.Y., on Aug. 22.

Guido Brink, a Dusseldorf-born painter and sculptor, became a living symbol of his adopted Milwaukee's zest and creativity. He died at his east side home on April 5. He was 89.
