Khodja Bahauddin, Afghanistan -- To his admirers, Ahmed Shah Massood was a heroic warrior -- the so-called Lion of Panj-shir -- who fended off the Soviet Red Army and the Taliban. To his detractors, he was a power-hungry warlord who fought for political gain at his nation's expense.
