CNH Global gets boost from farm sales

Strong sales of farm equipment helped CNH Global N.V. report a smaller loss in 2001 and win back some of the market share it lost after the merger of New Holland and Racine-based Case Corp.

CNH Global said Thursday its 2001 loss before restructuring and merger-related charges narrowed to $170 million, or 91 cents a share, from $197 million, or $1.26, in 2000. After charges, CNH had a final loss of $332 million, or $1.20 a share, compared with a loss of $381 million, or $1.79.
