Betty Jean Small never forgot what it was like to be a working
woman with young children, bringing her own special brand of
leadership to her role with the federal court here.
In 1979, Small became the first clerk of federal Bankruptcy Court
in Milwaukee, then established as an independent entity.
Small died of an apparent heart attack Dec. 31, after earlier
being diagnosed with lung cancer. She was 67. She retired in 1993,
declaring that she would miss her staff but not ...
