Developers' Fees Not Collected; Review of Law Sought

Prince George's County has not collected any money from developers to help ease school crowding since a much-heralded law took effect more than a year ago to force builders to help pay for new classrooms.

The law, proposed by council member Dorothy F. Bailey (D-Temple Hills), stops new residential development near schools that are more than 30 percent over capacity. It also requires developers to pay fees when a new subdivision produces more students at schools that are more than 5 percent over capacity. The fees range from $9,000 to $12,000 for each student, depending on the type of home ...
