Fire in Los Angeles' Griffith Park extinguished

LOS ANGELES -- Firefighters extinguished the few remaining hot
spots Thursday in the 817-acre Griffith Park wildfire that briefly
chased people from homes and threatened the landmark observatory and
Los Angeles Zoo.
The blaze was 75 percent surrounded, or contained, with no
visible flame within the fire perimeter. A scaled-back force of 250
firefighters, mostly hand crews, worked on smoldering tree stumps
and cleared away smoky debris in the now-barren hills.
Full containment was expected at 6 p.m.
