Verdict 'a Mother's Day gift'

With her emotions swinging wildly from laughter to tears Thursday, Evelyn Urgena called the guilty verdict against her son's killer a Mother's Day gift.

Rico Solis was only 17, working a part-time job at Brown's Chicken in Palatine, when he was killed in the restaurant on Jan. 8, 1993, along with six others. Standing outside court in a black dress, Urgena said she was happy when the verdict against Juan Luna was read.

"Everybody loves their children, so it's a Mother's Day gift for me," she said. "Everybody in my family is very happy."
