You can throw a party for your kid's confirmation or bar mitzvah
right in your own home. Space permitting, you can invite a busload of
family and friends, too, even that annoying guy from the office as
well as your aunt who drinks too much and then tells everyone what
she really thinks. (It wouldn't hurt to invite or at least alert the
neighbors, either, just to stay on their good side.)
Of course, you'll need to hire a band, one that knows pop hits
for the kids and a few standards for the adults. And, so long as the
