Venture capital dries up/ Springs companies skunked in second quarter

Venture capital investments in Colorado Springs companies came to an abrupt halt in the second quarter, mirroring a yearlong dip in financing deals nationwide, according to a report released Thursday.

But the rate of decline nationally slowed considerably, which could signal a bottoming-out of the venture capital market.

The report, issued by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, shows that venture capitalists remain skittish about investing during the economic downturn, which has brought thousands of layoffs and a meltdown of technology stocks.
