LSI will close local plant/Springs will lose 500 jobs as chip-maker is hit by national slowdown

LSI Logic Corp. said Wednesday it will shut down its Colorado
Springs manufacturing plant, resulting in the loss of more than 500
local jobs, as a bottomed-out national technology industry hits the
once-insulated Springs economy.
The Milpitas, Calif.-based LSI said up to 100 workers will be
offered positions at its Gresham, Ore., plant. The remaining 400-
plus Springs employees will be laid off.
