SAN LUIS - If Denver is the nerve center of Colorado, and the mountain towns its heart, then San Luis is its soul.

San Luis, the oldest town in Colorado, has changed remarkably little in 150 years. Ninety percent of its population is descended from the first settlers - Hispanics with such names as Vasquez, Martinez, Mestas, Vigil, Sanchez, Chavez and Lopez.
